"True leadership is not measured in terms and titles — it is measured in the lives touched and the futures shaped."
There are politicians who seek power, and then there are public servants who simply seek to help. Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Goa, has always been the latter. It is with immense pride and warmth that we celebrate Dr. Sawant's recognition as a recipient of the Mother Teresa International Award 2026 — one of the most soulful honours a leader can receive. 🕊️
Before the corridors of power, Dr. Sawant was first and foremost a healer. After completing his Ayurvedic Medical Degree and MSW in Social Work, Dr. Sawant dedicated himself fully to serving the people of Goa — both as a physician and as a social worker. That healer's heart never left him.
Driven by an unshakeable desire to serve the most vulnerable, Dr. Sawant founded Sai Life Care — a dedicated NGO focused on delivering healthcare, education, and skill development to underprivileged communities across Goa. Among its most compassionate initiatives is a pioneering home-based palliative care programme, which has brought comfort, dignity, and medical support to terminally ill patients and their families — in the place they feel safest: their own homes.
In 2008, Dr. Sawant's path took a significant turn as he entered public life — but his commitment to service only deepened. As Hon'ble Chief Minister, Dr. Sawant expanded Goa's primary health centres from 19 to 55, bringing quality healthcare to rural and remote communities that needed it most. He digitalised over 210 government welfare schemes, removing barriers and placing the power of governance directly in the hands of ordinary citizens.
His landmark initiative, Swayampurna Goa, was born from a simple but profound belief — that every Goan family deserves to be self-reliant, economically empowered, and food-secure. Built on the timeless principle of Antyodaya — serving the last person in line — the programme has touched hundreds of thousands of households, weaving a quiet net of dignity and opportunity across the state.
And now, on Labour Day 2026, Dr. Sawant announced five new welfare schemes for workers — including a digital literacy programme and elderly medical care — proving that his commitment to the people of Goa never rests.
To receive an award named in honour of Mother Teresa — a woman who devoted her entire life to the sick, the poor, and the forgotten — is perhaps the most fitting tribute imaginable for a man who began his journey as a doctor and never, for a single day, stopped caring.
Congratulations, Dr. Pramod Sawant. Goa is proud. India is proud. And every life you have touched is your greatest achievement. 🌺
